Barney Brundage Bryant was born September 6, 1856 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada.  He came to Rochelle, Illinois in 1877 and two years later was united in marriage to Julia Etta Beers.  To this union, twelve children were born, six sons and six daughters.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nellie May Bayles and by his wife.

He moved from Illinois to Nebraska in 1885, settling in a sod-house, northeast of Fairfield while building a frame house.  He farmed for a number of years and then moved into Fairfield where he was engaged in several lines of business.  With the exception of three years in Missouri where the three older boys served apprenticeships in foundry and machine-shop work, he spent the remainder of his life in this community.

Since the death of his wife in 1941, he has spent some time living with various children.  He was taken ill with pneumonia on March 14, but was almost completely recovered when he had a stroke on March 30.  He passed away on Saturday morning, April 1, at 2:00 o’clock in a Topeka hospital.  He was 93 years of age.

Surviving are the children:  W. C. Bryant, Miami, Forida; Arthur, Barney Bryant Junior, and Alberta Gaskell of Topeka, Kansas; Walter of Leavenworth, Kansas; Dolly Lewis and Estella Robare of Los Angeles; Henrietta Wheeler of Portland, Oregon; Emma Frank of Seattle, Washington; Robert Bryant of Ajo, Arizona; and Chas. Bryant of  Rockford, Illinois.  Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Jestine Jensen officiating.  All but three of the children were able to be present for the services.

Interment was made in the Fairfield cemetery.

Below the obituary the following:

Card of Thanks

We wish to express our sincere thanks for all the kindness shown us during our recent bereavement; to the minister and those who sang for all the beautiful floral offerings, and all the other tokens of sympathy.

                                                            The Bryant Family

Corrections by abstractor: Barney actually went to Flagg Township, Ogle Co. near Rochelle. He worked on the farm of his father-in-law, Richard H. Beers prior to his marriage to Julia Etta Beers.  The article should have stated that they had 4 great great grandchildren at the time of his death.
