Hastings Daily Tribune Friday January 17 1964 pg 9 Mrs Ruth Harter Dies at 91 Years Mrs Ruth Harter, who had been a resident of the Hastings community since 1872 Ruth Harter, died Friday at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, having attained the age of 91 years. She was the widow of Jesse Harter. Mrs. Harter was born May 27, 1872, in Baraboo, Wis, and when she was two years old came with her parents by covered wagon to settle on a homestead six miles east of Hastings. In 1923 she moved to Hastings where she has been a member of the First Methodist Church and active in its organizations. Survivors are her son, Cyril E Harter of Wichita, Kan., and five grandchildren, among them Lawrence R. Bird of Seattle, Wash., who was taken into the Harter home after his mother’s death from injuries suffered in a traffic accident, and reared there to manhood. Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Butler-Volland Chapel with Dr. Fay C. Mills officiating. Burial will be in the Harter family lot in the Inland cemetery.
