The Glenville Bee Friday Dec 1 1899 pg 1
MEMOIR
Edward Briggs
was born May 23, 1837, at South Clifton, Nottinghamshire, England.
In 1868 he was married to Miss Elisabeth Thompson, who with their only
son, John survives him. In 1884 he left his native county and came to Nebraska,
living for one year near Clay Center, whence he moved to his farm about six
miles south-east of Glenville.
Mr. Briggs
was modest and unassuming and gentle-spirited as a child. The last years of his life he was greatly concerned about his
soul’s welfare and lived a Christian life.
For over six weeks, Mr. Briggs was a patient sufferer.
In spite of the best of care and medical attention he grew continually
weaker until at 2:25 in the morning of the 29th of November he fell
peacefully asleep, to rest in his savior’s arms forever.
Besides his
wife and son, Mr. Briggs leaves an only brother, of Clay Center, Neb., to mourn
his death.
The funeral
services were conducted by Rev. A. Lemkau of the Evangelical church.
The sermon was preached to a crowded church from Rev. 14:13.
We express our heart felt sympathy for the bereaved.
