The Hastings Democrat Thursday December 22 1932 pg 1 Glenvil Business Places Robbed (By Staff Correspondent) Sometime between midnight or early Tuesday morning, thieves entered five places of business at Glenvil. That prowlers had been about, was discovered by John Schliep, on opening his oil station for business at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning, and discovered that the door had been pried open. The dial and handle had been knocked off the safe, but it had not been opened. A forced entrance had been made at the Hart Bohling grain elevator, and the same tampered with. Rather an unusual place to try to rob, but the back door of the school house had been opened with a bar but the teachers’ desks had been gone through and about ninety cents in change was missing. The greatest loss was sustained by August Heye, hardware dealer, which is estimated right at $200. Gaining entrance through a back window, $11.26 in cash was stolen, shot gun shells, razor blades, and 150 pocket knives valued at 75cents each. Clay County Sheriff John Harr and his deputy were summoned immediately upon discovering that the Schliep oil station had been entered, but no date no trace has been found of the thieves. It is thought that their car may have been parked about one half mile east of town as tracks leading to and from town were traced through the snow.
