When he was but five years old his father was drowned and his mother moved to Twin ....., McClain Co, Illinois where he remained until his marriage. He was married to Sarah Crawford, Aug 9th 1866 and with his wife moved to Missouri where he remained until Aug ? 1875 when he came to Nuckols county, Nebraska and located ... east and two miles south of the town of Deweese, where he remained until 1893, when he moved with ... to Rawlins County Kansas. Last Fall Mr. Wilkins was in this county and rented a farm between Fairfield and Clay Center and last week packed his goods and started with his family for his new home. On the night of the 17th at Ceder Bluffs, Kansas, he went to sleep in his wagon along with his youngest son Wesley and Jacob Kohler, and in the morning when they wakened they discovered he was dead, having died something during the night. The family reached Fairfield, with the body Sunday morning and proceeded to the cemetery one half mile south of his old residence where he was interned. Mr. Wilkins had long been a member of the Christian church, and his daily life was a walking epi...? of his religion. He was one of God's noblemen, always ready to turn his ear to the cry of distress of his fellow men, and very willing to alleviate that distress. He leaves a wife two sons and five daughters and one sister to mourn his sudden loss. He was a member of the AOUW lodge at Lawrence, Neb. Although he is gone his good deeds still live, and many there are who will remember them with sorrowful hearts. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." |
