W N Randall - January 17 1896 Vol 5 #3, Fairfield News-Herald, pg 2

Mr. Randall was born in Mercer County, PA in 1845, and at the age of six came with his parents to Washington county, Iowa, and some later to Jefferson County of the same state. In the spring of '64 he entered the service of the United States, enlisting in Co. C 8th Infantry, serving until the fall of the same year when he was discharged by reason of disability. In November of 65 he was married to Mary J McReynolds and in March '73 he moved to Clay County Nebraska where he has since resided. In March '91, Mrs Randall died and in Sept '92 he was again married to Mrs. Olive M Boyd who survives him. By his first marriage there were sever children five of whom are still living.

Mr. Randall was one of the early settlers of the county, and passed through most of the hardships of the early history the grasshopper raids and the severe droughts. He was an invalid and severe sufferer for many years past. His death on January 6, however was rather sudden and unexpected as his last illness was of but a few days.

His widow and family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in this to them an irreparable loss.
