Fairfield News-Herald Aug 11 1899 pg 4 Memoir Ai W. Martin was born in Vinton Co. Ohio, Oct 27 1869, and died at the residence of his father, near Deweese, on Sunday, Aug 6 1899. Deceased came with his parents to Nebr. in 1879 and in 1896, received the degree of Bachelor of Laws from the State University. Since that time he had practiced Law in Dorchester. He held the office of County Attorney of Saline County at the time of his death. On the 19 of Jan 1899, he was married to Miss Evelyn Kepler, of Dorchester, and being then in impaired health, he and his wife went to Phoenix, Arizona, where they spent the winter. From the time of their return in May, until the end came it was evident to his friends that he could not recover. As quietly and unobservedly as the mists rose on Sabbath morning last, so rose his spirit out of its "encumbering clay' into it home in the sky. The funeral occurred on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, his long-time friend, Rev C A Mastin, of Minden, officiating, assisted by Rev. J R Gettys, of Dewitt, who also had been an intimate friend of the deceased for many years, and who came unannounced from Lincoln to pay his last tribute of respect to his friend. The church was beautifully and tastefully decorated with white buds and blossoms and the casket was covered with flowers gifts of Friends at Lincoln, Dorchester and other places where the deceased was known. The interment was made in the Fairfield cemetery and there his ashes await the trumpet call of God - R. |
