Obituary- December 3 1897 Vol VI #48, Fairfield News-Herald, pg 4

Wm Glass was born in Kentucky, June 13th 1817, where he spent the first forty years of his life. He was married Sept 29th 1839 to Miss Emily McCoy, who died in Saline county, Nebraska, Aug 12, 1890. He was the father of nine children, three boys and six girls of whom five are still living. Mr. Glass moved with his family from Kentucky to Missouri in 1858 where he lived until the fall of 1860 when he moved to Iowa. In 1864, although beyond the age required for service, he volunteered in the service of his country joining the 36th Iowa volunteers, stationed at Little Rock, Ark., and remained in this service until the close of the war. In 1847 he became a member of the Baptist church and in 1866 he, his wife and two daughters united with the Christian church in which he was a member when he died. In the fall of 1870 he moved with this family to Nebraska and settled in Saline county where he remained until after the death of his wife, when he came to Clay county where he has since lived. He died at the home of his son-ion-law, W. J. Collett, on Friday, Nov 26th in his 81st year. The funeral services were conducted by Eld. Geo. Lobingier, his pastor, at the Christian church on Saturday and his remains laid to rest in the Fairfield cemetery.

Mr. Glass was of a quiety and retiring disposition, never having much to may, but in his dealings with his fellowmen, he was perfectly honest and honorable.

He was a Christian in every sense of the word and in his death he has simply crossed over to enjoy the bigger life in the never ending eternity.
