Carl Oscar Nelson, or Nils'son, according to the Swedish use of
patronymics, son of
Nils Eric Olson, was born in Sweden, September 25, 1867. At the age of
sixteen years he had finished high school, and came to the United States, his
father sending him off alone with twenty-five dollars. When he arrived in New
Windsor, Illinois, he had fifty cents left. He lived for a short time with
relatives before moving to Nebraska where he worked on a farm at Harvard. He
farmed in
Clay County Nebraska, until 1900, when he entered the farm
