James Hoyt Obituary

  Jim, a farmer, lived in Iowa Couth, Iowa, Portis, Kansas and Thomas County, Kansas.

  James Hoyt, son of Henry Winfield and Rosa (Miller) Hoyt, was born in North English, Iowa, Dec. 23, 1870 and passed away at Fairfield, Nebraska on July 22, 1948 and the age of 77 years, 6 months and 29 days.

  He was the oldest of four children. He came to Clay County, Nebraska, in 1890. He was engaged in farming until his retirement five years ago. He was married to Sarah Ellen Hand, June 16, 1893. To this union eleven children were born, eight daughters and three sons. A daughter, Nellie, died at the age of one year. A son, Will, died at the age of 11 years and another daughter, Erma Leston, died at the age of 19.

  Mr. & Mrs. Hoyt lived a married life of close association and comradeship. They clelbrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1943. Mrs. Hoyt preceded him in death on June 15, 1948. James Hoyt leaves to mourn his passing eight children:

  • Henry Hoyt of Clay Center [b. 1898]

  • Priscilla Hannah (nee Hoyt) Wood of Hillsboro, Oregon [b. 1900]

  • "Betty" Bertha Mae (nee Hoyt) Von Spreckelsen of Clay Center [b.1902]

  • Sarah Ellen (nee Hoyt) Denney of Sutherland, Oregon [b. 1906]

  • Eva Goldena (nee Hoyt) McNinch of Greenwood, Nebraska [b. 1907]

  • Linda Rosa (nee Hoyt) Richardson of Newton, Kansas [b. 1912]

  • Walter Roy Hoty of Hastings [b. 1916]

one sister and two brothers:

  • Clara Brown of Ansley

  • Will of Fairfield

  • Elmer of Los Angeles, California

26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

At the time of Mrs. Hoyt's death, James Hoyt was too ill to have been notified of the passing of his life mate. In reality, the two departed this life together
